THE FOOL, Card #0
Monday, March 22, 2010 at 1:54PM The tarot’s major arcana cards represent universal experiences that we go through in our lives, no matter what our background or how we were raised.
Key Words: Courage, Fearlessness, and Ecstasy
In the movie “Yes Man”, Jim Carrey plays a surly pessimist who enters into a covenant with himself. He vows to say yes to each and every opportunity he encounters. The problem is that he uses no discernment initially and so runs into a number of compromising situations, as well as many wonderful situations. No matter. Through the unquestioning acceptance of each open window life has to offer him, the icy crust around his heart is thawed and he is transformed into a compassionate and humanized individual by the experiences he allows himself to have.
I am also reminded of Carrey’s performance as The Grinch and Ricky Gervais in “Ghost Town”.
The dog is a reminder of the mundane world, our responsibilities to ourselves, to loved ones, as well as our pragmatic considerations. While this pup can symbolize a distraction, in this major arcana rendition, it is more a reminder to balance all aspects of our existence and utilize discernment while fearlessly traversing life’s ecstatic journey.
The luggage is a symbol of our emotional baggage. It reminds us that our baggage, the amount of which is entirely up to us and can weight us down if not dealt with. I would think it is best to travel light when fearlessly pursuing what we find grooviest in our world.

That is a really cool idea! Personally, I can't stand Jim Carrey. Part of that may be that after a while, anyone who acts like a "fool" over and over annoys me. I must check out the rest of this deck. I've been meaning to make one of my own, just for my own use, based on themes and characters from Lost. The mythology and story is so rich, and all the characters can be matched up with cards.
Thanks, Eve, for your comment. I'd wanted to do something like this for a very long time, but for a million reasons (mostly the commitment to it), I couldn't get it together. This time, however, it is happening spontaneously! I guess when it's time, it's time. Thanks for your support, and I hope you visit again.
